What are the common drywood termite treatment methods?
Whole-house and spot treatment methods are used to eradicate drywood
termites. Fumigation is the most common whole-house treatment. It involves tenting
a house and pumping in chemicals that are toxic to termites (and other pests, such
as ants, spiders, mites, and moths).
Heat is also used as a whole-house treatment. The heat method kills termites
by increasing the temperature of the home to at least 120 degrees. This method
does not use chemicals. However, it is not always effective throughout the house.
Large, structural beams, for example, may not reach the temperature needed to kill
termites.
Spot treatments attack specific areas of a house where termites have been
identified. Chemical spot treatments involve drilling holes into the structure
of a home and applying chemicals. Non-chemical spot treatments involve applying
heat generated by microwave or electricity.
